So what are the essential oils that are most useful for cleaning?
Lemon: not only does lemon have a clean and uplifting scent, but its acidic properties provide antibacterial and antiseptic cleaning actions. It is also a great oil to remove stains. You can use it when cleaning light coloured floors or even use it in your washing to keep your whites looking fresh!
Lavender: with lavenders calming scent, why wouldn’t you want to use it while cleaning the house. It has anti-bacterial properties and even deters insects.
Pine: has a clean smelling scent, making it great for cleaning. Pine acts both as a disinfectant and a deodorizer.
Peppermint: can be used to purify the air and act as a mild pest repellent.
Eucalyptus and Tea Tree: Use these strong scents to work as air and surface sanitisers. Tea Tree also works well on mold, mildew and musty smells.
Clove: is a great essential oil to use when you’re trying to rid your kitchen, bathroom or shower curtain of mold. Add 15 drops to a spray bottle and mix with water. Leave on affected area for about an hour and then wipe off with a wet cloth. You can also add about 10 drops to your washing liquid, to rid your clothes of mildew.
Sweet Orange: This is a great essential oil to use when you want to freshen up your home. Add 10 to 15 drops to a spray bottle when wet dusting your house.
Mix these oils either with water, baking soda, or mild detergents. Also burn essential oils, to leave a fresh and uplifting smell throughout your home.
